3752714 - automatic planning area logic for data action steps in multi actions

Symptom

  • You would like to understand the behavior of the "Automatic Planning Area" option in the setting: "Default strategy if the target version isn't in edit mode" for data action steps in multi actions.
  • The SAP Help documentation states: "Automatic Planning Area: The application will choose between an empty planning area and the recommended planning area. This option can help improve performance if your data action creates large versions."

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud

Resolution

The "Automatic Planning Area" selection logic is as follows.

  1. Empty Planning Area is selected only when the data action creates very large private versions. Currently, the threshold is approximately 80 million facts.
    • Once such a large private version was created, the following executions will use the empty planning area to reduce the version size.
  2. For other scenarios, the application continues to use Recommended Planning Area logic.
    • When the Recommended Planning Area path is used and no recommended planning area is configured in the model preferences, all version data is included.
