3752885 - OPEN DATASET/READ DATASET reads carriage return at line end on linux

Symptom

  • When reading a text file using ABAP OPEN DATASET and READ DATASET on a Linux application server, an unexpected or “garbled” character appears at the end of each line.
  • Files written by ABAP OUTPUT on Linux contain LF line endings; users may expect CRLF when interoperating with Windows tools.
  • The symptom does not occur when the option WITH SMART LINEFEED is used for input.
