Symptom

  • Batch emailing of remittance advices for bank transfers fails.
  • Error message: “The SMTP server returned the following error message: 504 5.5.2 user's email: recipient address rejected: need fully-qualified address.”

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Payment Management work center
  2. Go to Payment Monitor view
  3. Select the payment method, ID and choose Go
  4. Navigate to Output History
  5. Select the Error
  6. Navigate to details.

Contact your key user to investigate this error.  When the error has been solved your key user should inform you so that you can retry outputting the document.

Diagnosis

An error occurred while transferring the message to the SMTP Server mail-byd.cis.cos.s4h.sap.corp. The message has not been delivered to the recipient xyz@.com

System Response

According to the SMTPserver'sreturn code the message cannot be processed due to an error.

The SMTP Server returned the following error message:
504 5.5.2 <abc@gmail>: Recipient address rejected: need fully-qualified address

Cause

The issue occurred because an invalid/incomplete email address was configured in the Remittance Advice communication setup, causing the SMTP server to reject the email.

Resolution

Verify and update the configured email addresses with valid email formats in the Remittance Advice communication setup, then retry the process.

  1. Go to the relevant business partner record used as the remittance advice recipient(Supplier/Account).
  2. Go to the Supplier/Account work center
  3. Select the Supplier/Account
  4. Edit
  5. Navigate to Communication > Collaborationconfiguration section.
  6. Review all maintained recipient emails and ensure each is fully qualified
  7. Correct or remove any invalid or incomplete emails (for example, addresses missing a domain extension).
  8. Save the changes and retry the process.
