3753661 - Mix of variant and standard configurations

Symptom

Inconsistent behaviour observed when standard-configured products (all types: Simple/Configurable/ParentChild) are part of a product configured with VCP. For example, navigating from the main configuration of an AVC-configured product to a tab with a container and returning, model dependencies and rules are no longer enforced. So all possible values become visible including those that should be restricted or hidden by AVC constraints.

Environment

SAP CPQ integrated with Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open a quote that contains an AVC-configured product and enter configuration
  2. On the main/base configuration tab, select attributes and note that constrained characteristics show restricted value lists
  3. Navigate to a different tab implemented as a product container
  4. Choose Edit, add a new row in the container (for example, add any item/data), and Save
  5. Navigate back to the main/base configuration tab
  6. Observe that previously constrained characteristics now expose all values instead of the rule-constrained set.

Cause

This is a product limitation: standard-configured products (for example, products in CPQ containers) must not be embedded within a product configured with Variant Configuration and Pricing (AVC/VCP). Mixing CPQ configuration elements with AVC configuration in the same product context causes inconsistent rule evaluation when returning from the container.

Resolution

Limitation will be documented in SAP Help page.
