3754163 - Upload failed when updating sac excel add-in via microsoft 365 admin center: "please check the manifest file" error

Symptom

  • "Upload failed. Please check the manifest file and try again."
  • Error occurs when updating the add-in via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (central deployment).

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, locate the deployed SAP Analytics Cloud add-in for Excel.
  2. Start the update by selecting Update for the add-in.
  3. The process fails with: "Upload failed. Please check the manifest file and try again."

Cause

  • A known issue on the Microsoft central deployment side can prevent automatic updates of the add-in from the store in some tenants.
  • The add-in manifest from SAP is not the root cause of the failure.

Resolution

If you require automatic rollout via central deployment, open a ticket with Microsoft support to address the tenant-specific central deployment issue that blocks updates from the store. Microsoft is aware that their centralized deployment scheme has certain issues with updates.

A workaround is to manually deploy it..

  1. Obtain the latest add-in manifest for manual deployment. Refer to: SAP Note 3289743 (Manual deployment of SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office).
  2. Perform a manual deployment of the add-in in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center using the manifest from Note 3289743.
  3. After deployment, verify the installed add-in version matches the current store release (for example, 1.23.0.0 or later).
