3755309 - SAC Data Analyzer : Calculated Measures Showing “0” in Story Table but “*” in insight from Data Analyzer

Symptom

  • With Story having table includes several calculated measures, these measures are correctly defined and return expected results in the Story.
  • In the Story table, the calculated measures display a value of 0. When opening/jumping from Story to Data Analyzer for the same data, the same calculated measures display a value of “*” instead of “0”.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud Versions 2026.2.11 (Client) 2026.2.10 (Server)

Cause

Mixed values are displayed in data, and this is visible in the story even. For example, when "Net Variance - A" is shown in the table, it appears as a non-value, but in the hover tooltip, we can see the value with an asterisk (*), which indicates a mixed value.

Resolution

  • When "Net Variance - A" is then used in the "Net Variance - B" calculation, the next-level calculation is displayed in the story as a value in EUR. However, from the backend response, we can see that it is still returned as Value Exception 9, which indicates a mixed value.

With the QRC2 2026.08.5 release, Mixed Units is now supported in Data Analyzer. Users can expect to have the option to enable Mixed Units in Data Analyzer.
Starting from QRC2 2026, there are 2 possible options :

  1. MixedCurrencyShowValueInDA
This shows the setting for mixed units, where the displayed value includes the number plus an asterisk, for example: 24.00*.
The setting for this display is available in the styling panel under "Number Values for Mixed Units / Currencies".

  2. MixedCurrencyShowStarInDA
This shows the current default behavior. Users would need to manually enable the setting if they want to display the mixed-unit value.

Caution
A Story is considered a curated flow, designed by a Story Designer who understands what needs to be displayed.
Data Analyzer, on the other hand, is an ad hoc analysis tool intended for any user. For that reason, it is important to make it visually very clear when an aggregated number and may not be meaningful. For example, adding 5 kg to 2 tons gives a value of 7, but that result is not meaningful without context. The asterisk (*) indicates that the backend recognizes this as a mixed unit or mixed currency value, so the result should be interpreted with caution.
