3756877 - Duplicate pay component error when adding the same pay component twice in recurring deduction

Symptom

  • An error occurs when trying to add XXX component in the recurring deduction portlet.
  • Error message: "Duplicate Pay Component found for RecurringDeductionItem with value Pay compponent XXX
  • The error prevents adding another record for the same pay component for the same time period.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log in to the instance.
  2. Navigate to an employee profile.
  3. Go to Compensation > Recurring Items.
  4. Open History, select Edit, then Add.
  5. Select pay component XXX
  6. Attempt to add two entries with the same start date for the same pay component.
  7. Save and observe the error.

Cause

This is standard system-designed behavior that prevents creation of duplicate recurring pay component records for the same time period.

Resolution

  1. Avoid creating two Recurring Deduction/Recurring Items records with the same pay component for overlapping dates.
  2. If concurrent deductions are required, create or use a separate pay component specifically for the additional deduction, and add it as a new Recurring Deduction/Recurring Items record with the same dates.
