Symptom
Error "Communication category missing" when creating communication arrangement using a custom communication scenario.
Environment
- SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the Communication Arrangements app.
- Start creating a communication arrangement for a custom communication scenario.
- Save the arrangement.
- Observe the error "Communication category missing".
Cause
Not all inbound services that belong to the custom communication scenario were transported and available in the target system, causing missing or inactive artifacts during activation.
Resolution
- Verify the custom communication scenario in the source system (for example, in ADT) and list all intended inbound services and dependent artifacts (such as CDS views, service definitions, service bindings).
- Compare with the target system and identify any missing inbound services or dependencies in the scenario.
- Transport the missing inbound services and all required dependent artifacts to the target system.
- Import the transports into the target system and review transport/activation logs (for example, ABAP Dictionary activation) for errors; fix any missing or inactive data sources and re-import as needed.
- Republish the communication scenario in the target system.
- Create and save the communication arrangement again.
