Symptom
Some Connectors have failed with the error "java.lang.IllegalStateException: attempt to process more than 65536 blocks with 2-Key TripleDES" since the 1H 2026 release.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Learning
Reproducing the Issue
- Open Learning Administration > System Administration > Connectors >
- Open a Connector and View Errors >
- The following error has been appearing with each connector run since the 1H 2026 release: "java.lang.IllegalStateException: attempt to process more than 65536 blocks with 2-Key TripleDES".
Resolution
Our Learning Engineering team has finalized their work on the situation, and the fix is scheduled to be delivered with 2605 patch 3. Additional details are available in the following links: Product Release & Road Map Information | SAP SuccessFactors - Patch Details (KBA 2287597).
Additional details about the fix and required customer action:
- The cryptographic library used for PGP encryption and decryption was upgraded to a FIPS 140-3–certified version of Bouncy Castle, as Learning connectors failed to decrypt files encrypted with OpenPGP v6 AEAD encryption using the Bouncy Castle FIPS library.
- In accordance with NIST guidelines (SP 800-131A Rev. 2), the deprecated 2-key Triple DES (3DES) symmetric cipher is no longer supported for PGP-encrypted import files, except for files smaller than 512 KB. If the PGP-encrypted import files use 2-key Triple DES and exceed 512 KB, it’s required to re-encrypt them using AES-256 before uploading.
