Symptom
After uploading the journal entries with a negative sign in quantity to the Upload General Journal Entries app, the negative quantity values become positive.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
Reproducing the Issue
- Upload a journal entry that contains a quantity field entered with a negative sign (for example, -100) via the Upload General Journal Entries app.
- Post the journal entry.
- Open the posted document and observe that the quantity sign is adjusted by the system, showing a positive quantity on debit lines and a negative quantity on credit lines, regardless of the sign entered during preparation.
Cause
The general logic is the following: The system automatically determines the quantity sign based on the posting side. A posting in the debit on a stock G/L account increases value and stock, so that one would accordingly expect a positive sign for the quantity, whereas a posting in the credit on a stock G/L account reduces value and stock, so that one would accordingly expect a negative sign for the quantity.
Resolution
If a negative quantity outcome is intended, structure the posting as a credit line item rather than entering a negative sign in the quantity field.
