Symptom

Unable to change end date in the work order due to error message:
"Your changes could not be saved due to the following error while processing the work order xxxxxx with start date xxxx/xx/xx: Employment Information: Concurrent employment for contingent workers needs to be enabled to import the record for the following person ID: xxxxxx"

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Contingent Workforce

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the profile of sample user
  2. Click 'Actions' > 'Edit Work Order Information'
  3. Change the Work Order 'End Date' (ensure that this end date does not cause an overlap with existing employments)
  4. Click Save
  5. Error message appears:
     "Your changes could not be saved due to the following error while processing the work order xxxxxx with start date xxxx/xx/xx: Employment Information: Concurrent employment for contingent workers needs to be enabled to import the record for the following person ID: xxxxxx"

Cause

  • It is a validation introduced with the 1H 2026 enhancement Enhanced Work Order Processing on Centralized Services
  • This validation happens when the instance does not have  'New Work Order Requires New Employment' enabled via Upgrade Center & the employee has multiple Contingent Worker employments (Active/ Inactive)
    • This happens through the following possible gap:
      1. An employee already has two employments: Regular + CWK1
      2. Admin clicks Add Contingent Worker and searches the same employee
      3. The duplicate match screen appears > admin selects Regular employment
      4. System interprets this as a Rehire > creates a new CWK employment (CWK2)
      5. Employee now has Regular + CWK1 + CWK2 i.e multiple Contingent Employments exist with 'New Work Order Requires New Employment' disabled
  • With this, the system validation prevents editing work order when multiple employments exist & 'New Work Order Requires New Employment' is not enabled.

Resolution

  • Enable concurrent employment via Admin Center > Upgrade Center > Upgrade 'New Work Order Requires New Employment'.
    • IMPORTANT:
      • Once this upgrade is applied, you can’t disable concurrent employment for contingent workers.
      • Once this upgrade is applied, you can’t create multiple work orders for the same user ID

OR

  • For instances where error is currently present, the employees needs to be consolidated to a single employment by purging the extra Contingent Worker employments and transferring all Work Order data to the one active employment.
  • Product Engineering is working on an enhancement ECT-273470 to block the rehire flow on the Regular employment when 'New Work Order Requires New Employment' is disabled.
    • This prevents admins from selecting Regular in the duplicate match screen, enforcing the single employment design principle. 
    • Please reach out to your CSM/CEE to track the progress of the enhancement.
