Symptom
In Project Control - Enterprise Project app, for a project with Project Profile "Project with Revenue", when creating a new WBS Element it is not possible to edit the Profit Center and Functional Area fields in app Project Planning.
Environment
- SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Start app Project Control – Enterprise Projects.
- Create a new project of type Project with Revenue and assign a profit center.
- Save the project so it is in status "Created".
- Navigate to app Project Planning via “Edit in” → “Project Planning”.
- Click “Edit”.
- Select the parent project and click “Create” to add a WBS element.
- Observe that the new WBS element inherits the profit center from the parent project and it cannot be overridden.
Cause
System standard behavior: for a billing element, the profit center and functional area are the same for all WBS elements in its subtree; subordinate WBS inherit these values and are not editable at WBS level.
Resolution
- Use the parent project’s billing element to set the required profit center; subordinate WBS elements will inherit this value by design.
This standard behaviour is documented in SAP Help Billing Element:
-
The Profit Center and Functional Area of a Billing Element is same for all the WBS elements in its subtree structure.
