• During execution of the costing run (CK40N / Manage Costing Runs app), bills of material (BOM) maintained only with BOM usage 5 (sales and distribution) are not considered.
• Materials that have exclusively BOM usage 5 do not have their BOM exploded during product cost planning.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

• Standard product cost planning logic considers only BOM usages that are relevant for costing; in standard, BOM usage 1 (production), 3 (universal), and 6 (costing) are used for BOM selection.
• BOM usage 5 (sales and distribution) is not considered for costing by design; materials with only usage 5 therefore do not have their BOM exploded in the costing run.

1. Verify the BOM usage maintained for the affected materials.
2. If a material has only BOM usage 5, create or assign a BOM that uses an allowed costing-relevant usage (for example, BOM usage 3 – universal; alternatively 1 – production or 6 – costing if suitable for the business scenario).
3. Save the BOM and ensure it is active/valid for the costing date.
4. Run the costing again in CK40N or the Manage Costing Runs app and confirm that the BOM is now exploded and considered.
5. If the business requires costing with BOM usage 5 specifically, note that this is not currently supported by design
