3762650 - Error "Activation failed" shows in Logs when creating and checking a custom analytical query in app Custom Analytical Queries and Services due to missing write authorization - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • In the Custom Analytical Queries and Services app, activating a query fails.
  • Error message displayed: "Activation failed."
  • The issue occurs when activating a query based on a custom or standard CDS data source.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the Custom Analytical Queries and Services app.
  2. Create a new query or open an existing one based on a CDS data source (custom or standard).
  3. Choose Check.

Cause

The user’s assigned business role did not include write authorization for query design; only read access was granted, which prevents activating queries.

Business catalog: SAP_BW_BC_AQD_PC

Resolution

  1. In Maintain Business Roles, identify the business role assigned to the user who designs/activates queries.
  2. Ensure the role includes the Analytics - Query Design (SAP_BW_BC_AQD_PC) business catalog with write access set to Unrestricted.
  3. If needed, assign or copy an appropriate role template that grants write/develop permissions for the Custom Analytical Queries and Services app.
  4. Assign the corrected role to the user.
  5. Log off and log on again to refresh authorizations.
  6. Return to the Custom Analytical Queries and Services app and run Check/Activate on the query; activation should complete successfully.
