3762800 - Planned Independent Requirement (PIR) is not consumed by sales order

Symptom

Sales order and PIR show up in MD04 at the same time, which means sales order doesn't consume the PIR.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Material is using a planning strategy that supports consumption.
  2. The consumption mode and period is correctly maintained.
  3. The PIR is within the consumption period, but it is not consumed by the sales order.
  4. Checking in Display Total Indep. Requirements (MD73) app, there is no consumption data.

Cause

The consumption will only be triggered during the sales order creation. If the PIR is created after the sales order, its quantity will not be consumed by the old sales order.

The PIR change history can be checked in Display PIRs (MD63) app by clicking the "History" button of the PIR item.

Resolution

Make sure the sales order is created after the PIR to avoid such issue.
If there is already such issue in the system, decrease the PIR quantity manually to avoid excessive planning.
