3763953 - "Cannot Make Cyclic Dependencies" Error in SAC Models

The following behavior occurs in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC):

• When creating an external data source view in SAP Datasphere that reads from a SAC model, performs calculations, and attempts to write data back to the same model, the save operation fails with the following error:
  • "Cannot make cyclic dependency" - Execution of a database statement failed with error: can not make cyclic dependency

• SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)
• SAP Datasphere

SAP systems automatically detect and block circular dependencies to maintain data integrity and prevent logical inconsistencies. 

Use a separate, dedicated SAC model as the write destination instead of writing back to the source model.

Recommended Architecture:

• Source Model: Provides input data for calculations
• Datasphere View: Reads from source model and performs calculations
• Target Model: Receives calculated results

This breaks the circular chain and enables the complete flow:

• Read (Source Model) → Calculate (Datasphere View) → Write (Target Model)
