3765025 - Columns appear abnormally wide in excel when using the sac add-in after data refresh – SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft office

• In the SAC add-in for Excel, the column widths for certain items appear abnormally wide.
• The behavior is intermittent: sometimes columns are normal after refresh, sometimes they become abnormally wide during refresh and may or may not return to normal once the report is ready.
• No error message is displayed.

SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office

1. Open an existing workbook that contains a SAC add-in table.
2. Sign in to the SAC add-in and refresh the table.
3. Observe that one or more columns may become abnormally wide.
4. Optionally, create a new SAC table with the same settings (for example, Show Totals) and refresh to observe whether the column becomes abnormally wide.

The abnormally wide column issue originates from a bug in Excel's built-in autofit functionality, rather than the SAC Add-In.

The SAC add-in utilizes Excel's standard autofitColumns() API to adjust column sizes after data is written, which is the same operation performed when manually double-clicking a column border in Excel. 

1. Validate that the behavior is in Excel: open the workbook directly in Excel (without the add-in) and manually apply AutoFit to the affected column(s). If the column(s) expand to the maximum width, the issue is with Excel AutoFit, not the SAC add-in.
2. Contact Microsoft support and provide a workbook that reproduces the behavior, noting that AutoFit expands the affected column to the maximum width although the content does not justify it.
