3765717 - Copying development goals bypasses required competency validation and creates goals with blank required field

Symptom

  • Competencies field is required in the Development Goal Template but shows as blank for some users after copying a goal.
  • When a user copies a goal from a previous year, the system allows the goal to be created without the required competency being filled in.
  • No error message is displayed during the copy process.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Succession & Development

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log in as a user and go to Goal Plans > open a Development Plan.
  2. Select Add a Goal > Copy from Goal Plan.
  3. Choose a previous goal plan and select a goal that has no competencies set.
  4. Proceed through the copy steps without selecting any competency.
  5. Finish the copy.
  6. Observe that the copied goal is created and the Competencies field remains blank, despite being required in the template.

Cause

As designed behavior: the system does not block copying a goal when the source goal has no competencies. Required field validation for competencies is not enforced during the copy process if the source goal lacks competencies.

Resolution

  1. Manually edit the copied goal after creation and add the required competency.
  2. If validation during the copy process is desired, submit an enhancement request to have the behavior changed in a future release. Refer to: How to create an enhancement request.
