3765728 - Error "mail from address must be same as authorization user" when using custom mail server

Symptom

After configuring a custom mail server in Identity Authentication Service (IAS), password reset emails are not received.
IAS troubleshooting logs show the SMTP error: "501 mail from address must be same as authorization user".
