1. Configure a custom workflow email notification template that includes tokens mapped to fields from the workflow target record.
2. Launch a workflow that updates effective-dated data and wait for the notification to be sent.
3. Observe that certain mapped values in the received email are empty.

Host Country token is empty.

• A recent token enhancement has been published that we can use reference and pending data combination to get the pending new data so we can compare what is the old value and what is the new value.
• Direct mapping type can extract old value.
• For adding global assignment, when you use old Direct mapping type, no value would be extracted as there is no old value existing for new GA employment.

1. Identify tokens in the custom workflow notification template that map to fields from the workflow’s target record which become effective only after approval (for example, effective-dated or post-approval values).
2. Edit the template and update those tokens to use the new token resolution approach that combines reference and pending data so they resolve values from the pending (to-be-approved) record.
3. Save the template and validate the behavior in a test environment by initiating a representative workflow and confirming that the previously blank values are now populated.
4. Move the updated template to production following your standard change management process.

A more typical use case is, now we can compare what is the old data and what is our new data. For example we want to change the job title for one user and we want to show the changes in the workflow custom email notification.
