Symptom
- When a rehire is processed via Onboarding 2.0, offboarding tasks are generated for the user.
- Offboarding tiles/tasks appear to the rehire during the onboarding experience (for example, during Personal Data Collection).
- Offboarding tasks can appear with historical due dates after the rehire process.
- The behavior is observed for users rehired using “rehire with old employment”.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding
Reproducing the Issue
- Select a terminated user in Employee Central and note their date of birth.
- Create a new position record using the same company code as the user’s last position.
- Create and approve a job requisition.
- Create a candidate in Recruiting with the same first and last name as the terminated user.
- Forward the candidate to the requisition.
- Move the candidate to the pre-employment medical step, select a cost recovery option, and save.
- Move the candidate to offer approval.
- Complete and approve the offer.
- Move the candidate to the Letter of Offer step.
- Proxy as the appropriate role, open the candidate in the requisition, and enter the same date of birth as the terminated user.
- Move the candidate to Onboarding.
- Initiate Onboarding.
- On the Home Page, open the Pre Onboarding Verification tile for the candidate.
- Select the match to the terminated user and choose “Rehire with old employment”.
- Complete Review Rehire Data and submit.
- Open the Offboarding Dashboard and search for the user.
- Observe that Offboarding tasks are generated.
Cause
A change was made to the termination-related Job Information record from the People Profile (History UI) before rehire acceptance, which launched a termination event and its post-save business rule (for example, the Initiate Offboarding rule), creating Offboarding tasks.
Modifying and/or re-saving the termination record satisfies the offboarding rule conditions and launches offboarding, even when the user is being rehired with old employment.
Resolution
- If offboarding tasks were unintentionally created for a rehire, cancel the Offboarding process for the affected user from the Offboarding Dashboard.
- Do not edit the terminated Job Information record via the People Profile (History UI) once the employment is terminated. Perform any necessary changes as part of the Rehire event record instead.
- Be aware that re-saving the termination record launches termination post-save rules (such as Initiate Offboarding); avoid re-saving or changing termination entries when processing a rehire with old employment.
- Preventive check: review the Initiate Offboarding configuration rule to ensure it is scoped to actual termination scenarios only and excludes rehire processing.
