Symptom
- When following KBA 3692727, the DNS lookup used to verify an existing Akamai configuration fails and does not return valid results.
- DNS lookup returns the error message: "Non-existent domain".
Environment
SAP SucccessFactors HCM suite
Reproducing the Issue
- Run nslookup +hostname URL
- Recieve the message: *** nsq-dns-00.ddi.sap.corp can't find hostname.example.com: Non-existent domain
Cause
The lookup command was incorrect or did not exist, causing DNS to return "Non-existent domain".
Resolution
The “Non-existent domain” message indicates an error in the nslookup command. The result does not point to an Akamai configuration issue. Instead, it shows that the hostname used for the lookup is invalid or does not exist in DNS.
Make sure you are following the exact recommendation.
- Verify the nslookup examples from the KBA '3692727- Standardizing Access to SAP SuccessFactors HCM & Learning: Enforcement of Standard URLs via Akamai';
- Perform DNS checks using only the specific SuccessFactors hostname; do not include http:// or https:// in the query.
- Ensure the hostname is complete and correctly formatted (include the company identifier as required by SuccessFactors standard URLs).
If "Non-existent domain" persists when using the correct full hostname, you can verify with your IT/network team to verify how the DNS lookup is being performed and review internal DNS/proxy/firewall behavior, as this validation must be done within the user's network.
