Symptom

The SUM tool prompts repeatedly for user and password; the issue persists across different SUM versions. Related errors include:

  • pam_authenticate (user) failed: No account present for user [usercheckux. 260]
  • OS Authentication failed
  • HTTP 401: Unauthorized: User authentication required

The error messages above appear in /usr/sap/hostctrl/work/sapstartsrv.log with extended trace level - see 2451419
