Symptom
A document section template has been generated in bold format since the 2605 release.
Environment
SAP CPQ
Reproducing the Issue
- Ensure a Document Generation Template uses the "Strong" character style.
- Open a quote.
- Generate the document.
- Notice the section with the "Strong" character style is now completely in bold where previously it was not.
Cause
- The text appears bold because the tag used to display a value in the template has the Strong character style applied.
-
The value may contain multiple lines and during document generation, the system detects the line break characters in that value and converts them into actual line breaks in the generated document. While doing this, the generated content preserves the formatting from the original tag in the template. In this case, the original tag has the Strong style applied, so the inserted value inherits that style and is displayed in bold.
-
It is important to note that Strong is a specific type of Word style. It is a character style, not a paragraph style. This means it can be applied only to selected characters or part of the text, instead of the whole paragraph. Because of that, simply selecting the text and turning off the Bold option may not fully remove the Strong style. The text may visually appear non-bold in Word, but the underlying Strong character style can still remain applied to the tag.
Resolution
To fully resolve this, the Strong style should be removed from the tag itself, not only the visual bold formatting. The safest way is to select the tag and use Clear Formatting or remove the applied character style, so the tag no longer carries the Strong style in the document structure.
