Symptom
You are using SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Configuration Activity (SSCUI) “Define DMS Document Type” to configure specific document types, you must use a customer namespace outside the SAP reserved namespace.
Environment
Document Management System (DMS)
Cause
Custom document types must be created only within the customer namespace.
Creating document types in SAP-reserved namespaces is not supported and can lead to conflicts during SAP upgrades, feature enhancements, and future releases.
In addition, documents created using unsupported document types may encounter authorization or attachment access issues, resulting in inconsistent system behavior.
SAP-Reserved Namespace
The following document type key ranges are reserved by SAP and must not be used for customer-defined document types.
Alphanumeric Keys (Reserved)
- S*
- Q*
- R*
- P*
- X*
- Y*
Numeric Keys (Reserved)
- 0*
- 5*
- 6*
- 7*
- 8*
- 9*
Note: Numeric restrictions also apply when the document type is defined as a character field.
Impact of Using SAP-Reserved Namespaces
Using SAP-reserved namespaces for custom document types may result in:
- Conflicts during SAP upgrades and system conversions
- Key collisions with SAP-delivered document types
- Inconsistent or unsupported application behavior
- Attachment visibility or access issues
- Additional manual effort to correct namespace conflicts
Resolution
Before creating a new document type, verify that the selected key does not belong to an SAP-reserved namespace. Use only customer-defined key ranges to ensure compatibility with SAP standard functionality and future releases.
In case you have created new entries of document type under SAP namespace, you must delete the entries and re-create it under customer namespace.
