Symptom
- In the Excel add-in, filters only accept existing members from the value help; free-form ranges or values not existing are rejected.
- Attempting to enter a range independent of existing values results in the error "Input is not valid."
- In SAC (Data Analyzer for example), the behavior is the same as in the Excel add-in: only existing members are accepted.
Environment
SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office
Reproducing the Issue
- In SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office, connect to a model based on a query.
- Open the filter for a dimension.
- Attempt to enter a free-form value or a numeric range that is not an existing member in the value help.
- Observe that the entry is rejected and an error such as "Input is not valid" is shown.
Cause
By design: the Excel add-in (and SAC) filter input only accepts existing dimension members; defined-condition style free-form ranges independent of existing members are not supported.
Resolution
Acknowledge that this is working as designed in the Excel add-in and SAC; entering values or ranges that are not existing dimension members is not supported.
