Symptom
An RFC client system (it can be an SAP system, or a third-party system using one of the communication libraries delivered by SAP: SAP RFC SDK, SAP JCo, SAP NCo) receives a "connection reset by peer" message almost instantly after having opened the connection.
A test using the "telnet" tool has the same symptom: telnet connects, but almost instantly disconnects.
One main symptom is that the "dev_rd" trace file does not log anything related to the issue.
At the RFC client end, the following (or similar) message is observed:
LOCATION CPIC (TCP/IP) on local host [local hostname of client system] with Unicode
ERROR connection to partner '[SAP server IP address or hostname]:33XX' broken
TIME [date and time]
