3770198 - How to identify the collision time segments

This KBA explains how to identify the collision time segments of time recordings, especially when collision has been allowed via Collision Resolution Between Absences and Attendances.

When collision of time recordings is allowed, the colliding time segments of the different time types might all be posted for payroll, which duplication is not wanted.
Instead, you just want to consider the colliding periods once.

So this KBA explains how a time valuation can be configured to easily identify the colliding time segments.

It is possible to identify the colliding time recording periods through a Deduct Group from Input Groups time valuation, and then to reduce the duplication in following up time valuations. 

For example, you have configured to allow the collision of absence recording by time type BLUE_ABSENCE and On Call recording by time type BLUE_ONCALL.
Following steps can then be followed to identify the overlapping time records between BLUE_ABSENCE and BLUE_ONCALL. 

1. Create a time type group BLUE_ABSENCE_TTG to read the absence recordings with BLUE_ABSENCE.
2. Create a time type group BLUE_ONCALL_TTG to read the on-call recordings with BLUE_ONCALL.
3. Create a Deduct Group from Input Groups time valuation, where the time type groups BLUE_ABSENCE_TTG and BLUE_ONCALL_TTG created in step 1 and 2 should be used as Input Time Type Group and Deduction Group respectively.
   
4. Then the colliding time segments between BLUE_ABSENCE and BLUE_ONCALL would be moved to Time Type Group Below. 
   
5. After the colliding time segments are identified, you can then create following up time valuations to deduct them.
   Considerable time valuation types include：
   • Aggregate Input Groups and Split with the identified colliding time segments used as one Input Time Type Group with Reverse Sign = Yes.
   • Deduct Group from Input Group with the identified colliding time segments used as the Deduction Group.
   • Difference Between Threshold and Input with the identified colliding time segments used as the Threshold Group.

Please understand, the approaches provided above are for your reference on how to reduce duplication of the allowed collision, so as to avoid double payment/deduction in payroll etc.
