Symptom
When the depreciation start date is set to the previous fiscal year, the system does not recalculate depreciation for the past periods and continues to post depreciation only in the current period.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to the Fixed Assets work center.
- Go to the Fixed Assets view.
- Search for the fixed asset ID.
- Click Edit button and choose values.
- Select the Depreciation Overview subtab.
Here the depreciation shows for current fiscal year.
Cause
If the Fixed asset is created with a capitalization date and depreciation start date in fiscal year YYYY. Based on these dates, the system calculated depreciation and generated the corresponding depreciation values and journal entries from YYYY onwards. When the depreciation start date was later changed to YYYY-1, the system will not recalculate depreciation for the past periods. In SAP Business ByDesign, once depreciation values have been generated based on the original asset settings, changing the depreciation start date to a prior fiscal year does not retroactively create or adjust depreciation for pervious periods.
Resolution
This is the standard system behavior.
