3772443 - API_MATERIALSERIALNUMBER returns 201 response but serial number/equipment not created for material with serialization level 1 - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

• Creating material serial numbers via API_MATERIALSERIALNUMBER with serialization level 1 returns HTTP 201 Created, but neither the serial number nor the equipment is created.
• In the Manage Material Serial Numbers app, create a serial number and save; an unnamed object appears and the app becomes unresponsive; the serial number is not created.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Configure the material with serialization level 1 (equipment and serial number must be the same).
2. Call API_MATERIALSERIALNUMBER (OData V4) to create a material serial number, optionally providing identical values for SerialNumber and Equipment.
3. Observe HTTP 201 Created in the response.
4. Check the system: the serial number and the equipment do not exist or are not aligned.
5. Alternatively, in the Manage Material Serial Number app, create a serial number and save; an unnamed object appears and the app becomes unresponsive; the serial number is not created.

Product restriction that serialization level 1 (equipment and serial number kept synchronous) is not supported by API_MATERIALSERIALNUMBER and the Manage Material Serial Numbers app.

• Workaround 1: Use app Create Material Serial Number (IQ01) to create the serial number manually.
• Workaround 2: Use the Migration Cockpit object “PM - Equipment” for mass creation of equipment/serial number with external number range.
