Symptom
- Error occurs when postprocessing event-based postings in product costing.
- Error message: "Inconsistency between a document field and the prof. segment number" (KE396).
- Diagnosis text indicates the profitability segment has a characteristic value (for example, customer) that differs from the value in the original document, causing inconsistency.
- System response states CO-PA characteristics must match the original document’s values and suggests correcting the assignment or reassigning the profitability segment.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the app Postprocess Event-Based Postings – Product Costing.
- Select a production order and simulate/post event-based postings (for example, variances).
- The system raises KE396: "Inconsistency between a document field and the prof. segment number."
Cause
- A CO-PA-relevant characteristic in the original document (for example, customer) was changed after the profitability segment had been created/derived, resulting in a mismatch between the original document and the assigned profitability segment.
Resolution
- Reverse the variance using processing option Revers Variance of job template 'Postprocess Event-Based Postings – Product Costing' in the app "Schedule Product Costing Jobs".
- In the app "Postprocess Event-Based Postings – Product Costing" or the job template, simulate and post again to complete the processing without KE396.
