Symptom
- When creating a purchase requisition with custom fields (for example, Asset Category), the custom fields are not used in predictive journal entries nor visible in report apps such as P&L – Plan/Actual/Committed report.
- The commitment amount appears in the report, but the custom field dimension shows blank (#) instead of the maintained value.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Create a purchase requisition and maintain a value in a custom field (for example, Asset Category).
- Open the app P&L – Plan/Actual/Committed.
- Add the custom field (for example, Asset Category) as a report dimension.
- Observe that the commitment amount is shown, but the custom field dimension is blank (#).
- Review the line item data for the same PR in other report apps such as Display Line Item - Cost Accounting and see that the custom field is blank
Cause
Custom field values maintained on purchase requisitions are not automatically populated in predictive journal entries used for commitment reporting. The values must be derived and filled by using a Substitution rule for journal entries.
Resolution
- Ensure the data used the purchase requisition is eligible to create predictive commitment postings (for example, an account assignment is maintained and a relevant P&L account is used so that a commitment is created).
- Configure a Substitution Rule to populate the custom field used in journal entries.
- Create or update a purchase requisition that generates a commitment and refresh the P&L – Plan/Actual/Committed report.
- Add the custom field as a dimension and verify that the values appear instead of blank (#).
