3773861 - How to define a WBS element to collect depreciation costs for an investment project - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public edition

You may have the following requirement: You have an investment project with a WBS element using an event-based (EB) settlement profile. For fixed assets contributing to the investment project (for example, for an electric generator), you want to collect the costs including depreciation costs on the investment project and capitalize them on the asset under construction (AuC) and on the completed assets. 

In other words: 

• You want to use an investment project with event-based settlement for your operational postings and instantly activate the investment project costs on an AuC. 

• You want to also collect depreciation costs of fixed assets for this investment project. 

• You want to post these depreciation costs of fixed assets (needed for the investment project) to a WBS element and capitalize them on the AuC. 

However, the system does not allow depreciation cost postings to be collected on investment projects when the WBS element uses event-based settlement. 

In such a case, the system issues the error message "Depreciation posting is not supported." (FINS_IM_EVENTVASED-026) during the depreciation posting run.
