3774847 - Error ME066 During Purchase Order Creation with Custom Account Assignment Category and Item Category E in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Error message ME066 "Combination item category E/account assignment category Z not defined" occurs when creating a Purchase Order using item category E (Enhanced Limit) with a custom account assignment category Z.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Maintain the combination of item category E and custom account assignment category Z in SSCUI "Define Combination of Item Categories/Account Assignment Categories" (ID 101655) and save.
2. In the same client, create a purchase order using the Create Purchase Order – Advanced app (custom combinations are not available in Manage Purchase Orders).
3. Enter item category E (Enhanced Limit) with account assignment category Z and proceed; the system raises error ME066.

Current system logic for enhanced limit items (item category E) in purchase orders supports only specific standard account assignment categories. Custom categories (such as Z) are not supported for item category E, and the SSCUI combination does not override this system behavior, which leads to ME066.

The account assignment categories supported by the item category E are:

1. C (sales order)
2. K (cost center)
3. P (project)
4. S (third-party project)
5. U (unknown)
6. N (network)
7. A (asset)
8. F (order)

Use a supported standard account assignment category for item category E when creating purchase orders. 

If a custom account assignment category must be used, consider using a different item category that supports the required combination.

If the business requires using a custom account assignment category with item category E, submit an improvement request via the Customer Influence portal.
