3777479 - Downloaded Sales Order Output PDF Is Saved as "Preview.pdf" or "OutputBinaryData.pdf" Instead of a Business Document Name – SAP s/4hana cloud public edition

When downloading a Sales Order output document from Display Sales Order (VA03) in SAP GUI for HTML, the downloaded PDF is assigned a generic filename such as:

• Preview.pdf
• OutputBinaryData.pdf

instead of a meaningful filename containing the Sales Order number or document description (for example, SalesOrder_151172.pdf).

This behavior may lead customers to believe that output generation or document naming is not functioning correctly.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Open the app Display Sales Order (VA03) from the launchpad.
2. Open a sales order that already has output generated.
3. Navigate: Menu → Extras → Output → Header → Edit.
4. Choose Print Preview.
5. In the PDF viewer that opens, click the Download icon.
6. Observe that the saved file name is Preview.pdf (or OutputBinaryData.pdf).

This is known standard behavior of the current implementation of SAP GUI for HTML Print Preview.

When Print Preview is used, SAP generates the output document and displays it in the browser's integrated PDF viewer. In this scenario, a business-specific filename is not passed to the browser, therefore the browser saves the document using a generic filename such as Preview.pdf.

This behavior is not caused by customer configuration or Output Control customizing.

Currently there is no configuration or customizing option available to control the filename assigned during download from SAP GUI for HTML Print Preview.

As a workaround, the downloaded document can be renamed manually after download.

The behavior is known by SAP Development and is already included in the list of planned product improvements.
