3778004 - Cannot Edit Expense/Revenue Classification Field in App G/L Account Master Data via Mass Change in SAP S/4 Hana Cloud Public Edition

• Companies in countries like e.g. Brazil must classify G/L Accounts as Expense or Revenue for Digital Tax Bookkeeping (ECF).
• The Expense/Revenue field exists in G/L Account master data but cannot be changed, even though it appears open. There is an Error message.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Open the Manage G/L Account Master Data app.
2. Select a G/L Account XXX (where XXX ist the G/L Account ID).
3. Choose Mass Change - Other Attributes.
4. Assign Expense/Revenue type to G/L Account by selecting "E".
5. Press Apply.
6. Observe the message: "Your changes don't apply to certain fields because they cannot be edited. Please see popover messages for details."

• Common reasons preventing changes:
  • Standard restriction: Expense/Revenue classification (G/L Account type) is a fundamental attribute and is not always changeable after creation.
  • Mass Maintenance only updates fields that are editable; protected fields are skipped and reported.
  • The Account has existing postings.
  • Open item management or other dependent settings exist.
  • The field is not enabled for mass maintenance.
  • Conversion between balance sheet and expense/revenue categories is restricted.

1. Open G/L Account XXX in app Manage G/L Account Master Data.
2. Enter Edit mode.
3. Attempt to change the Expense/Revenue field manually and review the popover/message to confirm the field is non-editable.
4. Check whether the Account has postings, is open-item managed, or is used as a special/reconciliation/cash/tax Account.
5. If the field is not editable for the single Account, acknowledge that Mass Maintenance cannot update it either (same field-control logic).
6. Use the supported approach where changes are restricted:
   • Create new G/L accounts with the correct Expense/Revenue classification.
   • Migrate balances if required.
   • Block the old accounts for future postings.
