Symptom
A user's relationship type for example Matrix Manager field is being synced everytime by hris sync job even we are not doing any changes to job relationship.
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
- HRIS Sync
Reproducing the Issue
Prepare a user who has the job relationship record that the same manager user appears more than once for one relationship typesbut with mutiple records.
For example, Matrix Manager 1 and Matrix Manager 2 are both the same user in one record.
- Import a Job Information (jobinfo) record for that user.
- Allow the HRIS Sync Triggered job to run.
- Review the HRIS Sync log: it shows "matrix manager updated", with Updated Value containing duplicate user ids and Previous Value without duplicates.
Cause
The root cause is a data inconsistency between Employee Central (EC) and the Employee Profile / UDF (EP):
- The affected user has two job relationship records of the matrix manager type in EC (e.g., "Matrix Manager 1 and Matrix Manager 2", both assigned to the same person).
- The EP/UDF contains only one corresponding matrix manager record.
During HRIS sync, the sync logic detects this mismatch (2 records in EC vs. 1 in EP) and treats the data as inconsistent. As a result, it overwrites the matrix manager value in EP on every sync cycle in which the user is processed, causing the continuous daily updates visible in the hris sync log report.
Resolution
This is the expected behavior.
