3779078 - Delete option is unavailable for Balance Validation Rules in the Manage Balance Validation Rules and Rule Groups App

Symptom

  • Request for deletion of obsolete validation rules in SAP Group Reporting.
  • Several validation rules were created incorrectly due to a configuration issue and cannot be deleted through the application.
  • Inquiry about the possibility of reusing the same rule IDs/codes after deletion.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the Manage Balance Validation Rules and Rule Groups app, app ID F8001.
  2. Go to the Rules tab.
  3. Select an existing validation rule.
  4. Attempt to choose Delete.
  5. The Delete action is unavailable or the rule cannot be deleted.

Cause

This is standard system behavior when the balance validation object does not meet the deletion prerequisites.

The rule cannot be deleted because one or more of the following conditions applies:

  • The rule is in Active status.
  • The rule is assigned to a rule group.
  • The related rule group is assigned to a balance validation task.

Active rules must first be set to Inactive. Rules in Active status cannot be deleted. Rules saved in Draft status can be deleted. For rules that were previously activated and are now Inactive, deletion availability depends on the application behavior in the applicable release and should be verified in the system.

Resolution

Check the current status of the affected rule in the Manage Balance Validation Rules and Rule Groups app.

Rule Is in Draft Status

A Draft rule can be deleted:

  1. Open the Rules tab.
  2. Select the Draft rule.
  3. Choose Delete.
  4. Confirm the deletion.

Rule Is in Active Status

An Active rule cannot be deleted through the documented standard procedure.

If the rule is no longer required, choose Deactivate. The rule status changes from Active to Inactive, and the rule can no longer be used in validation.

Deactivation does not return the rule to Draft status.

Rule Is in Inactive Status

An Inactive rule cannot be used in validation.
