3779163 - Remote tables: Unable to connect remote source

Symptom

Connectivity from SAP Datasphere to an SAP S/4HANA On-Premise system fails with the following error message:

Remote Tables error: “Unable to connect remote source: [SAP][ODBCforABAP] (ABAPA) RFC prepare call: line count = 0 (adapter type: abapodbc, source name: DWC_S4H_INBOUND.CON_IN_S4H_DSP), Code: 5921, SQL State: HY000”

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the Datasphere, go to connection tab
  2. Select the affected S/4HANA On-Premise connection
  3. Validate the connection

Cause

Resolution

Restart the underlying SAP HANA Cloud database of the Datasphere instance according to the steps below:

  • System > About > More > Restart SAP HANA Cloud.
