Symptom

When running a Margin Analysis – Top-Down Distribution cycle in the app Manage Allocations or Run Allocations, the system raises the following error message:

“Invalid assignment between controlling area & and operating concern &”

The issue occurs only for Top-Down Distribution cycles.

Other allocation types, such as Margin Analysis – Overhead Allocation, assessment, distribution, or other CO-PA postings, can be executed without this error.

Keywords

I created this KBA to document a customer confusion in Manage Allocations / Run Allocations: when executing a Margin Analysis – Top-Down Distribution cycle, the system raises “Invalid assignment between controlling area & and operating concern &”, while other allocation types and CO-PA postings work correctly. Development Support confirmed that the affected TDD cycle was created from a TDD template assigned to a different operating concern. Since the TDD template is only relevant for Top-Down Distribution, the issue occurs only for TDD cycles. The resolution is to create a TDD template for the correct operating concern and then create a new Top-Down Distribution cycle based on that template.
