3779783 - Story Report Displays Blank Data for Secured Custom MDF Objects - Onboarding

Fields from secured custom MDF objects configured as data sources for Onboarding custom tasks appear blank in story reports that use the Onboarding schema. The issue occurs even when the user running the report has the Create Story with Onboarding Schema permission enabled in their role.

• Fields from the secured custom object return no data in the story, while fields from non-secured Onboarding objects in the same report display correctly.
• The story report loads and previews without errors, but the columns mapped to the secured object contain no values.

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding 

1. Navigate to Admin Center > Configure Object Definitions.
2. Confirm that the custom MDF object used as a custom task data source (for example, an object with a name beginning with cust_) has the Secured field set to Yes.
3. Confirm that the user's permission role includes Create Story with Onboarding Schema under Report Permissions.
4. Open a story report that includes fields from the secured custom object within the Onboarding schema.
5. Observe that the columns mapped to the secured object contain no data, even when records exist for those fields.

The Secured field on an MDF object definition activates role-based permission enforcement for that object's data. When Secured is set to Yes, each permission role must include an explicit object-level permission entry in order for users in that role to access the object's data. The Create Story with Onboarding Schema permission governs the ability to build and run story reports against the Onboarding schema, but it does not grant access to the underlying data of individual secured MDF objects within that schema. Because no object-level permission exists for the secured custom object in the user's role, the system returns no data for those fields, resulting in blank columns in the report.

To resolve blank fields from a secured custom MDF object in story reports, the affected user's permission role must include explicit View access to that specific object. The entry for each secured custom MDF object appears under Miscellaneous Permissions in Manage Permission Roles. This configuration must be applied to every role whose members need to see the object's data in stories or reports.

1. Navigate to Admin Center > Manage Permission Roles.
2. Select the permission role assigned to the affected user.
3. Click Edit, then select the Permission tab and click Next to open the Add Permissions view.
4. Under Miscellaneous Permissions, locate the entry for the secured custom MDF object (for example, cust_ONB_CustomTask or the applicable object name in the system). Note: Only MDF objects with Secured set to Yes in Configure Object Definitions appear as individual entries under Miscellaneous Permissions. If the object is not listed, confirm that the Secured field is set to Yes for that object definition.
5. Enable View access. Enable Edit as well if the role also needs to create or update data in the object.
6. Click Done, then Save Changes.
7. Re-run or refresh the story report and confirm that the fields from the secured object now display data.

After completing the steps above, the permission role includes access to the secured object's data, and the affected fields display values in the story report. If multiple secured custom objects are affected, repeat the steps for each object. If data remains blank after granting the permission, verify that records exist for the object by navigating to Admin Center > Manage Data and searching for the object.
