3780226 - Handling Unit API does not support creating a Handling Unit assigned to an EWM-managed Inbound Delivery in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

When using the released Handling Unit API in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, there is a requirement to create a Handling Unit (HU) already assigned to an EWM-managed inbound delivery.

Although the API exposes the HandlingUnitReferenceDocument entity, it is not possible to create a Handling Unit and assign an inbound delivery as its reference document during the API creation process.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Cause

The released Handling Unit API supports the reference document concept and allows retrieving existing reference document relationships through the HandlingUnitReferenceDocument entity.

However, for EWM-managed inbound deliveries, the API does not support creating a Handling Unit already linked to an inbound delivery as part of the creation process.

The assignment between the Handling Unit and the inbound delivery is managed exclusively by the standard EWM packing processes.

Resolution

The current supported behavior is as follows:

  • The Handling Unit API can retrieve existing reference document relationships, including inbound deliveries, through the HandlingUnitReferenceDocument entity.
  • The relationship can only be retrieved if it has already been created by the standard EWM business process.
  • The API does not provide functionality to create or maintain the relationship between a Handling Unit and an EWM-managed inbound delivery.
  • For EWM-managed inbound deliveries, the Handling Unit assignment must be performed using the standard EWM packing processes (for example, the Pack Inbound Deliveries application or other standard EWM packing transactions).

Therefore, creating a Handling Unit already associated with an EWM-managed inbound delivery through the released public API is not a supported scenario in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
