Symptom
- An error occurs when creating an time account manually.
- Error message: "External Code is required."
- The External Code field on the Time Account object is configured as read only and mandatory, preventing manual input.
- The system is expected to generate the External Code automatically during manual creation, but this does not happen.
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
- Time Management - Records & Objects
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Manage Data.
- Select Create New and choose Time Account.
- Enter the user id (the id).
- Select the time account type (the relevant type).
- Set Account Valid From and Account Valid Until dates.
- Set Booking Possible From and Booking Possible Until dates.
- Set Closed as need be.
- Select a Posting Type (for example, Manual Adjustment).
- Set a Posting Date.
- Enter Amount Posted.
- Select Posting Unit (for example, Hours).
- Click Save.
- Observe that the system returns the error related to the external code.
Cause
The External Code is not provided in the posting type details
Resolution
- Go to Manage Data.
- Open the Posting Type that is used during manual time account creation.
- In the Posting Type details, enter a value in the External Code field.
- Save and confirm that the error no longer appears.
