3780458 - Unexpected Rounding of Quantity in Manage Direct Activity Allocation App

Symptom

Quantities in financial accounting are limited to a precision of 3 decimal places. This limitation becomes evident in the "Manage Direct Activity Allocation" app when attempting to process or allocate quantities with higher decimal precision, such as those supported in SD Billing (up to 5 decimal places).

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the Manage Direct Activity Allocation app.
  2. Create a new activity allocation.
  3. Enter a quantity with decimals (for example, 1234.567).
  4. Save the document.

Cause

The limitation to 3 decimal places for quantities in financial accounting is due to the definition of the quantity fields within the financial applications of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. These fields are systematically restricted to three decimal places for consistency across all finance-related modules and processes. While customizing settings for ‘units of measure’ allow up to 14 decimal places to be defined, this cannot override finance-specific restrictions, ensuring streamlined accounting operations.

Resolution

To address situations where higher precision is required, a workaround can be implemented by defining new units of measure that represent a fraction of the original unit of measure. For example, if additional precision is required, smaller units (such as "centimeters" instead of "meters") can be created to accommodate the desired level of detail when handling quantities.
