Symptom
- Attempted to change some G/L account types from “Non-operating Income and Expenses” to “Primary Costs or Revenue” in the configuration environment.
- The change was successfully updated in Test, but it was not reflected in the Production environment.
- No error messages were observed during the change.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Change G/L account type from “Non-operating Income and Expenses” to “Primary Costs or Revenue” via Manage G/L Account Master Data.
- Transport the change to Production system
- Observe that in the G/L account type did not update.
Cause
- The change is not checked in the Production system when the type is changed from “Nonoperating Expense or Income” to “Primary Costs or Revenue". See Maintaining Your Chart of Accounts | SAP Help Portal
- The change involves two dependent objects: the G/L account master and Controlling area–specific cost element data. “Primary Costs or Revenue” requires cost element data (including cost element category). If this CO data is not included in the same transport, the change can appear incomplete even if the transport succeeds.
Resolution
If the account has postings in Production, changing the G/L account type is typically not permitted. In this case, creating a new account with type "Primary Costs or Revenue", and blocking the old account for future use.
Note: Changing the G/L account type is strongly discouraged for accounts predelivered with the standard chart of accounts in use. The G/L account type can be changed for additional accounts that have been created independently.
