3780800 - User Can View Position Data in Story or Canvas Reports but Not in Manage Data or Position Org Chart

A user can view information related to specific Positions in a Story Report or Canvas Report.

However, the same user cannot view those Positions in Manage Data or Position Org Chart.

The user’s Role-Based Permissions and target population appear to be correctly configured.

SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite

1. Log in to the system.
2. Open Report Center.
3. Run the impacted Canvas/Story reports based on Position data.
4. Observe that positions outside the user's permission scope are returned in the report output.
5. Open Manage Positions/Position Org Chart/Manage Data and confirm those positions are not visible for the same user.

This behavior is expected.

Position Org Chart evaluates Position access based on the hierarchy applicable to the selected As of Date.

Therefore, when the Position hierarchy changes, a user may no longer be able to view a Position using the current date. If an earlier date is selected in Position Org Chart, when the Position was still part of the user’s accessible hierarchy, the Position may be displayed.

Story Reports and Canvas Reports do not apply the same As of Date evaluation to the Position hierarchy used for permission checks.

As a result, reporting may consider a previous hierarchy in which the user had access to the Position, even though the Position is no longer available to the user in Manage Data or Position Org Chart as of today.

The difference between the results in reporting and the Position Org Chart or Manage Data is caused by the different ways in which the Position hierarchy and effective dates are evaluated by these features.
