Symptom
- Indexed model synonyms do not work as expected in Just Ask.
- Asking a query using the synonym returns a different/incorrect measure instead of the intended one.
Environment
SAP Analytics Cloud 2026.8.16
Reproducing the Issue
- Open Just Ask in the analytics tenant.
- Select an indexed model that contains a measure with a synonym "A"
- Enter the query “show me total A”.
- Observe that the result is returned for a different measure ("B") instead of the measure intended by the synonym.
Cause
When the synonym term is not unique in the model and appears in multiple measures, the LLM disambiguation selects what it considers the most relevant match rather than the intended measure; this behavior is working as designed.
Resolution
-
Assign unique synonyms to each measure. Avoid using synonym terms that also appear in the names, descriptions, or metadata of other measures. For example, if a measure is named "T-cost" and the synonym "Cost" is assigned to another measure named "Expenses", Just Ask/Joule may retrieve data from the "T-cost" measure when the "Cost" synonym is used.
-
Sync or rebuild the model index. After updating the synonyms, go to 'Manage Models' and sync or rebuild the index for the model to ensure that the latest synonym mappings are applied.
