• Publishing a custom business object after deleting a node fails with the error: "Business object could not be published because of conflicts."
• The external usage check lists that artifacts of the deleted node are still in use by generated TABL objects.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Open the Custom Business Objects app and switch the affected custom business object to edit mode.
2. In a child node, remove a field and then delete the child node.
3. Publish the custom business object.
4. Observe that publishing fails with "Business object could not be published because of conflicts," and external usages report generated technical objects (tables) still referencing the node.

Deleting and recreating a node within a single publishing operation can drop references to generated technical objects for that node, leaving orphaned artifacts. These orphaned artifacts are then reported as external usages, which block further changes and deletion.

1. If the issue has already occurred: contact SAP Support to remove the orphaned/unused technical objects for the affected node. There is no self-service workaround once these artifacts are orphaned.
2. To prevent recurrence: avoid deleting and recreating a node within the same publish cycle. First delete the node and publish. Then recreate the node and publish again.
