3783374 - Inspection Lot Behavior in Customer Returns in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (BKP vs. BDD)

During a customer return process:

• Returned stock is posted to blocked or unrestricted stock.
• No inspection lot is created after goods receipt.
• A transfer to Quality Inspection stock does not create an inspection lot.
• In Lean Customer Returns, an inspection lot may be created, but no stock posting is available from the usage decision.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Customer Returns

1. Create and process a customer return.
2. Post goods receipt.
3. Check the stock and inspection lots.

Result: The stock is posted according to the return process, but no QM inspection lot is created.

Lean Customer Returns

1. Activate inspection type 05 for the material.
2. Create and process a lean return delivery.
3. Check the generated inspection lot.
4. Complete the usage decision.

Result: An inspection lot may be created, but it is non-stock-relevant and the usage decision does not post stock.

This is standard system behavior.

Customer Returns uses the returns material-inspection process and does not create a QM inspection lot during goods receipt.

In Lean Customer Returns, the inspection lot created with inspection type 05 is non-stock-relevant. Therefore, the usage decision does not trigger stock movements or update the return delivery.

• Use the standard material-inspection process for Customer Returns.
• Use the Lean Customer Returns process when a non-stock-relevant QM inspection lot is sufficient.
• Post the goods movement separately from the inspection lot.
• Submit a feature request when a stock-relevant inspection lot is required for customer returns.
