3783957 - SAP Analytics Cloud add-in tab missing or login panel greyed out in Excel when third-party cookies are blocked in the browser - SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Excel

Symptom

  • The “SAP Analytics Cloud” ribbon/tab is missing in Microsoft excel (Desktop or Online) for some users.
  • The add-in panel/sidebar opens but stays empty, the login is greyed out, or sign-in is stuck on the welcome screen.
  • The issue occurs in both Microsoft excel (desktop app) and excel for the web.
  • Users can access the SAC tenant in a browser on the same machines,  but cannot authenticate via SAC add-in in Excel(Desktop or Online)
  • Clearing Add-in cache does not resolve the issue. 

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud
  • SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Start Microsoft excel (Desktop or Online).
  2. Check if the “SAP analytics cloud” ribbon/tab is shown; for some users it is missing.
  3. If the tab is present, open the add-in panel and attempt to sign in.
  4. Observe that the panel may remain empty, the login is disabled, or the process is stuck on the welcome screen.

Cause

Third-party cookies were blocked by the browser.

Resolution

  1. Turn off "allow third party cookies" in the browser. 
  2. Add an exception for third party cookies for the SAC tenant URL:
    1. Open Edge and go to edge://settings/privacy
    2. Under Tracking prevention, click Exceptions
    3. Add site for example: [*.]hcs.cloud.sap
